BBQ Havarti Burger with Caramelized Onions
Share
Thick onion rings go on the grill first and turn soft and sweet, then the patties join them for the last few minutes. Havarti, BBQ sauce and a brioche bun finish it.
Serves 4 · Prep 10 minutes · Cook 20 minutes
Ingredients
- 4 burger patties, 1/3 lb each (80/20 beef)
- 4 brioche buns
- White onion, sliced into 1/2-inch rings
- Havarti cheese slices
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
- Oil, for drizzling
- Mayonnaise and BBQ sauce, for serving
On the Grill
- Preheat the grill to medium-high while you prepare the onions.
- Season the onion rings with salt and drizzle with oil. Grill with the hood closed for 10 minutes, flip, and cook another 10 minutes until soft.
- With 5 minutes left on the onions, add the patties. Season with salt and cook about 3 minutes per side.
- Top each patty with havarti, cracked black pepper and a stack of the grilled onion rings.
- Spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun and BBQ sauce on the top bun, build the burger, and serve right away.
For doneness, the USDA recommends cooking ground beef to 160°F. Check with a meat thermometer in the center of the patty.
